Screaming Urge celebrates 42 Years Saturday September 25 with The 3 Speeds at Ace of Cups, Columbus!
(Columbus, Ohio) - Screaming Urge, a part of the first wave punk movement in Columbus, Ohio, since 1978, has a 42nd Anniversary Concert set for Saturday, September 25th, 2021 at Ace of Cups (2619 N High St, Columbus 43202, http://www.aceofcupsbar.com, email@example.com), with The 3 Speeds (Matt Wyatt, Eddie Blau, Chris Wyatt, Gene Brodeur) in support. It is a 21 and over event and carries a $7.00 cover charge. Doors open at 7:00pm and showtime is 8:30pm. Mask and proof of vaccination is required to enter.
In 1978, Michael Ravage founded the band that one year later would add 15 year old Myke Rock on bass guitar and just months later Dave Manic on drums. This set would become known as the classic Screaming Urge line up. 1979's single "Homework" (Ravage) b/w "Runaway" (Rock) and its success would pave the way for future albums, tours and performances with such punk legends as Cheetah Chrome (The Dead Boys), The Ramones and others.
The Ravage's "Homework" track was also included in a number of compilation albums both in Europe and in the states. Rock's "No Melody" and "We Are Mono" also made their way onto underground and punk comps.
As the 1978 Screaming Urge settled into existence, Ravage immediately began an annual event known as "Nowhere". Nowhere '78 featured the local punk bands teaming up to give like-minded fans something to sink their teeth into. Through the years, the event spotlighted some of the most heroic and revered underground bands to ever call Columbus home, including the iconic Scrawl (Marcy Mays), The Twisted Shouts (Ron House), Vertical Slits and later V3 (Jim Shepard), The Cowboys (Mark Eitzel) and many more.
2 self-titled albums, a few tours and dozens of adventures later, the band settled into reunion-ville, where they lived until this, the 42nd Anniversary Concert of Screaming Urge. Opening the show is The 3 Speeds, a band headed by another early Columbus punk band member Matt Wyatt. Matt was instrumental in the bands The Vorpal Gallery that later became The Vorps. Screaming Urge had shared numerous bills with Wyatt and his bands and it only seemed fitting to include his current punk band on this show.
